Meet ‘Alex Cross’ star Simenona Martinez

The upcoming crime thriller Alex Crossfeatures several well known actors includingMatthew Fox and Tyler Perry, but it also introduces actress Simenona Martinez to a whole new audience. The film which opens in theaters on Friday, October 19, follows the story of psychologist and detective Alex Cross, a character created by author James Patterson. Martinez stars as Pop Pop Jones, a criminal who helps Cross uncover the identity of the killer.
Born in Los Angeles in 1986, Martinez is no stranger to the entertainment business. Her previous film work includes a documentary she wrote and directed entitled Black and White, which was screened at the Los Angeles Film Festival in 2002. She also appeared in the 2007 film Ascension Day, which chronicles a slave rebellion in a pre Civil War era. Her work in television includes the Disney Channel series Behind the Ears from 2006.
Martinez won awards for her work on a series of public service announcements for Warner Bros. WB20 Youth Division in San Francisco. Her entrepreneurial work continued when she opened her production company Sioni Entertainment, focusing on creating films to affect social change. She is a talented singer/songwriter who is currently working on her debut album.
Aside from her multifaceted career, Martinez has participated in quite a bit of charity work, helping out UNICEF and The Lupus Foundation of America. Her next film role will be in the Rob Cohen directed action thrillerAlex Cross, which opens nationwide on October 19, 2012.
